The Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is offering two series of free classes in January for individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes. All classes are free but prior registration is required. Phone 574-6663 for reservations or for more information.
The first series begins Tuesday, January 8 at Taylortown AME Zion Church at 10901 Ballardsville Rd. Classes will be held there on successive Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The class schedule is as follows:
January 8, Class 1, Keeping those New Year’s resolutions to lose weight.
January 15, Class 2, Eating healthy - watching the fat grams - reading labels.
January 22, Class 3, Eating Healthy - Snacking healthy (samples of healthy snacks provided).
January 29, Class 4, Meal planning tips to carry you through the year.
A second series begins Thursday, January 10 at the Bon Air Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library at 2816 Del Rio Pl. Classes will be held there on successive Thursdays and begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. The class schedule is as follows:
January 10, Class 1, What is diabetes? Checking blood sugar. What types of food should I eat?
January 17, Class 2, What do I do when I am sick? What kinds of problems can diabetes cause? Learning about medications. How do I count carbohydrates?
January 24, Class 3, How can I stay healthy with diabetes? How do I read a label? What do I need to know about fat and salt?
January 31, Class 4, Taking care of my feet. Coping with diabetes. Keeping a healthy weight and staying active.
