Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12) and Councilman David Yates (D-25) organized a successful volunteer clean-up of the Southwest Government Center and the Vietnam Memorial. This comes after steps already taken, with coordination with Louisville Metro Facilities, to ensure that the grounds and gardens of the Memorial are consistently maintained.
"We take pride in our community and deeply respect our veterans," says Councilman Blackwell, "Helping with the upkeep of the memorial grounds is the least we can do."
The group of volunteers also included a number of veterans.
"My wife and I are happy to be part of this clean-up and we applaud Councilman Yates and Councilman Blackwell for their efforts." said Master Sergeant Tim Kenny, one of the many volunteers.
There have been concerns in recent months about the widespread problem of litter and trash in the neighborhoods, and this clean-up was organized as part of the continued focus on creating an inviting community by all of the Southwest Council members.
“We appreciate everyone who gave their time today- especially the veterans; to not only clean up the area, but to raise awareness of the problem of litter in our community” says Councilman Yates.
