Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton invites the community to a special meeting of the District 5 Crime Prevention Council to talk with front line law enforcement officers who are fighting drugs in the Louisville area..
“We want to let the community know they can do something about drug activity and crime in our district,” says Hamilton.
The District 5 Crime Prevention Council will convene on Tuesday, June 12th at the Yearling Club beginning at 6:30 pm. The Yearling Club is located at 4309 West Broadway.
Tony H. King of the Drug Enforcement Administration will be the featured speaker of the night. There will also be a representative of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms of the federal government on hand to answer questions.
“These two agencies deal directly with two of the biggest crime problems we face in our community – drugs and weapons,” says Hamilton. “This will be a chance to learn more about how these two agencies operate but more importantly what they need from the community to get the job done.
Hamilton created the District 5 Crime Prevention Council as a way to get more neighborhood involvement in fighting crime. The group also encourages more resident involvement in crime prevention programs.
“Our topic in June is a very important one when it comes to crime prevention,’ says Hamilton.
Also on Tuesday night, another important neighborhood meeting will take place; this one dealing with questions about liquor stores trying to locate in the District near Shawnee High School
The Louisville Coalition of Neighborhoods will host a panel of members of Alcohol Beverage Control. The panel will include the president of the KY State ABC Board and the current chair of the Metro Louisville ABC Board. The panel will provide information about liquor enforcement issues and questions.
The meeting will be held at the Metro United Way at the corner of Preston and Broadway.
“These are two very important community meetings dealing with issues that we want to address in District 5,” says Hamilton.
