Children in District 3 who decide to use the Algonquin Pool this summer will need to get a Metro Parks ID if they do not have one already. Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge (D-3) is making it easier to get the pool ID.

“I am working with Metro Parks to make sure any child who stops by the pool can get an ID at Algonquin and begin enjoying a summer of swimming,” says Woolridge. The Parks department and my office worked together to make sure this happened before the Algonquin Pool opened this year.”

The Councilwoman provided $1500 from her CIF funds to buy a printer and the necessary supplies to make the required pool ID for children in the district. Metro Parks uses the ID to provide contact information in the event of an emergency while the child is swimming or at the pool.

The ID can be used at all Metro Parks pool. It covers children under the age of 16. Metro Parks uses either a driver’s license or other picture ID for adults who use the city’s pools.

“I learned that applying for the pool ID was only possible at limited locations. In the case of children near Algonquin, they would have to travel a long way to get the needed ID,” says Woolridge.

When the Algonquin Pool opens on Saturday for the Memorial Day weekend, children will be able to receive a pool ID from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. The program will be available throughout the summer during the pool’s regular hours of operation.

The Algonquin Pool will be open Saturday May 28th through Monday, May 30th for the Memorial Day weekend. It will officially open for the summer season on June 4th.

The hours of operation at the Algonquin Pool are as follows:

Monday – Friday: 1-6 p.m. (closed day for cleaning is Tuesdays)

Saturday: 1-6 p.m.

Sunday: 1-6 p.m.

The pool is located in Algonquin Park, 1614 Cypress Street.
