Shawnee Park will highlight a very special event in September designed to bring friends and families together with great music and fun. Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton and the District 5 Advisory Committee announce the 2011 Community Celebration Concert is set for Saturday September 10th.

“Summer will be slowly winding down and the concerts are a chance to relax and enjoy a nice comfortable weekend with good music, good food and good friends,” says Hamilton (D-5).

The Celebration will be held at the Shawnee Park Band Amphitheater from 3:00pm until dusk. A wide variety of sounds is the key ingredient of the festivities featuring jazz poets, various musical artists, jazz funk and style.

Lexington’s POSITIVE MOVEMENT Show Band is one of two headliner groups performing at 5:00pm. The other headliner, UNLIMITED Show Band is a favorite of Louisville audiences will take the stage at 7:30pm..

The highlight of the Celebration Concert is always the Annual Molly Leonard Community Service Awards. The Awards are presented to salute many dedicated volunteers in the District 5 Community.

“There are many volunteers who deserve our thanks for taking the time and effort to help others and help our community,” says Hamilton. “These awards are our way of showing our thanks and gratitude for all they do.”

If you wish to nominate someone for an award, the deadline is August 25th.

“The important thing to remember is this Celebration is a time to relax. So come enjoy yourself, kick back with your friends as the days cool down and enjoy the sounds of Funk, Motown, the Blues, and R&B,” says Hamilton.
