Usually when ground is broken for any new facility, shovels turn dirt in a symbolic gesture that construction will begin. The Healing Place will take that one step further on Thursday, May 15th when seeds will be thrown out as a symbolic gesture of new growth.
“The Healing Place is an agency that continues to grow as it reaches out to those who need help and in this case, a new facility will grow stronger women and families,” says Councilwoman Judith Green (D) 1. “I will be honored to help them in this special event.”
Green will join others at the corner of Hill and 15th Street to break ground for a new 72,786 square foot community facility for women and children. The event will get underway at 10:00am.
The community facility will feature an expanded Overnight shelter and Detox Unit for women and their children. There will also be a recovery dormitory and transitional housing. Other features include classrooms, dining room, a health clinic and children’s play ground area.”
Agencies like the Healing Place need our support,” says Green. “A new facility like this will go a long way in not only growing a new person but will help maintain the health and strength of a family during their time of transition.”
The mission of the Healing Place is to provide men and women the chance to gain freedom from homelessness and addiction. It has operated in Louisville since 1993. To learn more, call the Healing Place at 502-585-4848. Or go online to: www.thehealingplace.org
