Children in the Newburg and Norfolk area will get a chance to start the school year off right thanks to Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) who will host a Back to School party on Saturday, August 14th.

“We have some very good schools in our district and I want parents and student to get back into the swing of things as a new school year begins,” says Shanklin. “So we will have a little kickoff party and have some fun to start things off.”

The District 2 Back to School party will get underway at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1501 Rangeland Road. It will be held from 10:00am until 1:00pm. It will feature back packs and school supplies for children on a first come first serve basis. There will also be information on beginning the school year for children in the Jefferson County School System.

“So this is a chance to learn about new things in the coming year,” says Shanklin. “We want our children to be ready to learn and this is just one way to achieve that goal.”

For more information about District 2’s Back to School event, contact Councilwoman Shanklin’s office at 574-1102.
