Neighborhood Place Offers a Restock Festival for School Supplies, a Homeownership Workshop and Other Events in September



Neighborhood Place locations across Jefferson County are proud to help offer several valuable events each month. Below are the highlighted events for September including a “Restock Festival” for school supplies, a workshop to prepare for homeownership and a six week healthy cooking series. Sept. 7 and 14, CHAMPS! Camp at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 8 – 5 p.m.

Located at 3610 Bohne Ave. Call 485-6710 for an information packet to register. CHAMPS! Camp (Creating Healthy Adolescents through Meaningful Prevention Services) is a 2-day training camp which provides youth ages 14-19 years old (males or females) the opportunity to participate in a teen pregnancy prevention study and learn more about healthy relationships. Youth are provided breakfast and lunch each day as well as incentives including a $75 VISA gift card on Day 2. Sponsored by the University of Louisville Kent School and the Office of Adolescent Health with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Sept. 12 through Oct. 17, Cooking Matters for Families at Ujima Neighborhood Place, Thursdays from 5 – 7 p.m.

This six week class will help you learn how to prepare simple, nutritious and delicious recipes. Learn also how to budget your money to create healthier food choices, plus free groceries will be provided every week for recipes prepared in class. Brought to your by Dare to Care and Ujima Neighborhood Place.

Sept. 12, Preparing for Homeownership workshop at NorthWest Neighborhood Place, Noon – 1 p.m.

Located at 4018 West Market St. Call 485-7230 for more information. Please join this conversational workshop on obtaining your first home or an additional property, securing down payment and/or down payment assistance resources, as well as other valuable tips on homeownership. These Lunch-N-Learn workshop series are sponsored in collaboration with Fifth Third Bank.

Sept. 24, Autumn Re-Stock Festival at Neighborhood Place Ujima, 3:30 – 6 p.m.

With school back in session for several weeks, this event will bring families together to restock school supplies, learn about community resources, and enjoy face painting and arts and crafts.


About Neighborhood Place

In November 2013, Neighborhood Place will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of its first site – First Neighborhood Place at 1503 Rangeland Road – which served as a pilot multi-service center to increase access to services.
