It is a very simple premise designed to get people out of the house and talking to their neighbors.
“For a few years now, we have highlighted the fact that the front porch is a simple place to learn more about who lives next door and who lives across the street,” says Councilman Tom Owen (D) 8.
Front Porch Tuesdays will take place on May 15th and May 22nd this year as part of an on going effort to make our neighborhoods safer and happier. On Tuesday May 15th, people who live in even numbered houses are to go across the street and visit on the front porch of their odd numbered house neighbors.
Then on the following Tuesday, the odd numbered houses go visiting. Folks that live in multiple family buildings are invited to work out their own scheme for exchanging visits.
“Winter is behind us and this is a good way to step outside, shake off the hibernation of winter and get reacquainted,” says Owen. “I have been very pleased that so many people have helped us promote the idea that neighbors that know one another can pull together.
Yellow signs are available to identify homes that are participating in Front Porch Tuesday. For more information about the event call Councilman Tom Owen’s Office at 574-1108. Or you can go on line to www.frontporchtuesdays.org for more information.
