Louisville – Disney’s 2012 animated feature about a video game villain who longs to become a hero will kick off this years’ Free Summer Movies season at the Iroquois Amphitheater on Saturday, May 11th.

“Wreck it Ralph” begins a series of free events sponsored by members of the Louisville Metro Council as part of the 2013 Summer Season of the Amphitheater in Iroquois Park..

“This is a special year as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Iroquois Amphitheater and these movies are one way to show the community what a great facility we have in South Louisville,” says Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D-15). “Movies are just part of a great fun, free summer.”

“Wreck it Ralph” tells the story of an arcade game villain who rebels against his past and dreams of becoming a hero. Traveling between games in the arcade he calls home, he ultimately must eliminate a dire threat that could affect the entire arcade, and one that Ralph himself inadvertently started.

The film features the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch.

The movie is free and begins at 8:30pm.

"The recent success of the Iroquois Amphitheater wouldn't be possible without the support and leadership of Councilwoman Marianne Butler and her colleagues on the Metro Council,” says Mike Slaton, Iroquois Amphitheater Manager. “Their support has made possible the Movies Under the Stars and Monday Night Movies series, as well as the free music and dance events that make up our Iroquois Amphitheater Presents series, and has been critical in continuing the tradition of live theater."

In March, the Metro Council approved $22,750 in Neighborhood Development Funds for the free movies and events.

Joining Butler as sponsor are Council members Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13), Dan Johnson (D-21) David Yates (D-25), Rick Blackwell (D-12), Mary C. Woolridge (D-3), David James (D-6), Tina Ward-Pugh (D-9), Cindi Fowler (D- 14), Kelly Downard (R- 16), Robin Engel (R-22), Brent Ackerson (D-26), Tom Owen (D-8) and Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5).
