Over the years, it has become the center of Newburg in many respects. Petersburg Park off Indian Trail is 28 acres of grassy space featuring and exercise trail, ball fields, tennis courts and more.

“Metro Parks is in the process of developing a Master Plan for this park and it is important that people in the area get an idea of how this park can be improved to make it the beautiful place we have come to enjoy for the future,” says Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2)

The master planning process continues for Petersburg Park with a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at the Newburg Community Center, 4810 Exeter Avenue.

“Officials with Metro Parks will be on hand to present alternative concept plans for the park,” says Shanklin. “What we need is to hear from residents and those who use the park just how feasible these ideas are for this project.”

Petersburg Park is one of many parks the Metro Council has focused on in the last several years for improvement. In the current budget, the Metro Council approved $300,000 for completion of a spray park. The project is set to be completed in July.

Residents can get information on the project; take a survey about the park and to sign up for project updates to keep track of the master planning process. Simply go to Metro Parks online: http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/cityofparks/projects/petersburgmasterplan.
