Louisville – December is the month for visions of sugar plums and other wonderful treats dancing through our heads but Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge (D-3) wants to encourage everyone to try and eat healthy while enjoying the holiday season this year.
“In the coming weeks, everyone will find themselves tempted to overeat as they celebrate but there are ways to make the holiday season healthier,” says Woolridge. “I want to invite everyone to join me in finding out how.”
Woolridge will participate in a Holiday Healthy Cooking- Food Demonstration at the First Choice Market from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, December 8th. Joining Woolridge for the event will be Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-1).
“I am honored to join Councilwoman Woolridge at First Choice in Park DuValle as we celebrate the holidays with a heart healthy food demonstration,” says Scott. “Lots of parents, like me, have full holiday schedules with work, family and volunteer service and we sure could use some good ideas for how to feed our families a healthy meal while staying on budget.”
Louisville Chef Derrick Jackson will prepare healthy holiday dishes which are easy on the pocketbook and waistline.
The Councilwoman will talk about the new Metro Louisville caloric ordinance as it relates to healthy eating. She will also tie in another important aspect of being healthy: exercising and resources available for that goal.
“Too often we say well it’s the holidays and I will start a diet or exercise after the New Year. Why wait? It is easy to enjoy the holidays and still eat healthy. Join me on Saturday, we can show you how,” says Woolridge.
The First Choice Market is located at 3044 Wilson Avenue.
