Image of Mayor Fischer's Instagram accountMayor Greg Fischer has officially launched a new social media feed, this one on Instagram. He and his staff will use this photo- and smartphone-based social media app to highlight metro services and departments, as well as share slice-of-life moments that he and his staff witness as they work throughout the city.

“This connects city government directly to a younger, more diverse demographic than the one we reach with Twitter or Facebook,” Fischer said. “Our first forays into social media three years ago have been a great point of connection with citizens, voters and taxpayers – this takes it to another level.”

As an entrepreneur and business-oriented mayor, Fischer has made it a priority to create a more innovative and creative start-up culture in Louisville. While people of all ages are a part of that, it’s especially important to reach young people and make sure they see what Louisville has to offer, he said. Instagram has 150 million active monthly users, with 90 percent believed to be under the age of 35.

“Whether they’re looking for a place to open an art gallery, launch a tech company or start a family – we want them to know that Louisville is a great, vibrant place for their ventures and their adventures,” Fischer said.

His Instagram user name is MayorGregFischer, and in addition to making his own posts, he will be asking different metro departments to post on the account.
