It has become a yearly tradition in Metro Council District 2 to follow the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service to the community and Dr. Barbara Shanklin (D-2) and the Men of Peace Presbyterian Church are asking others to help fulfill that dream on Saturday, January 15th.
“This is a devoted group of men in the Newburg Community who are trying to help our young people,” says Shanklin. “Their brunch has become a pleasure for me to partner with because this group cares about the future of our children.”
“Keeping the Dream Alive” is the continuing theme of this event and this year the Reverend Irvin Moxley will be the featured speaker offering his view on how to accomplish the goals of Dr. King in Metro Louisville.
The event will get underway at 11:00am at Newburg Middle School, 4901 Exeter Avenue.
The brunch is the main fundraiser for various youth programs sponsored by the Men of Peace throughout the year. Those programs include sending kids to summer camp, basketball games and providing some with Christmas presents. Donations will be sought from those who attend the brunch.
Tickets to the brunch are $20 per person, $160 for a table. All money raised will go for the benefit of youth programs.
“Our new Mayor has indicated that we as a city need to do more for those in need in our community,” says Shanklin. “This brunch shows a committed group of men are doing that while maintaining the aspirations of Dr. King.”
