The Ad Hoc Committee on the 2009 Flash Flood will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, September 9th at 6:30pm in Council Chambers, Historic City Hall, 601 West Jefferson Street.
Representatives of the Metropolitan Sewer District will appear before the Committee to discuss the layouts of the sewer system in Louisville Metro. The discussions will also include how the system operates and what feeds into which area as the areas where each main sewer drains.
“As we educate the public it is important to get a basic understanding of the current operation of the sewer and storm drainage system,” says Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21), who co-chairs the Ad Hoc Committee.
MSD will also discuss the progress that has been made over the years in improving runoff basins throughout the Metro area. MSD has recently announced the purchase of 91 acres near Poplar Level Road and East Indian Trail. A proposed plan calls for building a retention basin that will hold several billion gallons of rainwater to prevent flooding in the Buechel area.
“I hope the public will be able to learn from this discussion and see exactly how this system works,” says Councilwoman Judith Green (D-1) who also co-chairs the Committee.
The meeting will be broadcast live on Metro TV, Insight Cable Channel 25 and it will be streaming on the Metro Council’s homepage. Go to: www.louisvilleky.gov/metrocouncil.
