Friday August 22, 2008

It gets more than 14 million hits a month. It’s the place to do business with Louisville Metro Government. And it has a photo gallery of Louisville images available for download.

Now, Louisville Metro Government’s website,, has been named one of the top three city government websites in the country.

The website tied for third place, with Riverside, Calif., in the 2008 Best of Web and Digital Government Achievement Awards, announced this week by e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government. This is the third consecutive year that has been named a top web award winner.

“We’ve got a wonderful website – and it’s nice that others around the country recognize it,” Mayor Jerry Abramson said. “The website makes it easy to find answers and get things done – from contacting the Metro Council to licensing your pet. It’s possible at”

Abramson said the website makes it easy for people to access government services without having to come to City Hall or Metro Hall.

The top state and local government website will be honored at the 12th annual Awards Gala on Sept.12 in Hollywood.

Judges from all over the nation determined the winners. Best of the Web recognizes the most innovative, user-friendly state and local government portals while the Digital Government Achievement Award recognizes outstanding agency and department Web sites and applications.

“Each year, state and local governments continue to make strides toward implementing better access and more efficient web-delivery of public services,” said Cathilea Robinett, executive vice president of the Center for Digital Government. “This year’s winners represent the very best in each category.”
