Public Health and Wellness Offers Free Diabetes Classes

The Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will hold two free classes for individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes. Classes will be held Saturday, May 14 and Saturday May 21 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, 400 E. Gray St.

Classes are free and attendance at both classes is encouraged. Class size is limited so please call to make a reservation. Phone 574-6663 for reservations or for more information.

The class schedule is as follows:

May 14, Class 1, Overview of Diabetes, Types of Diabetes, High and Low Blood Sugar, Sick Days, Diet and Exercise

May 21, Class 2, Diabetes Pills and Insulin, Preventing Complications, Foot and Skin Care, Glucose Monitoring, Standards of Care

The Department of Public Health and Wellness also hosts monthly “mini-classes” for people with diabetes and their families or caretakers. The class meets the second Thursday of each month from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Douglass Community Center at 2305 Douglass Blvd. Phone 574-6663 for more information.
