Gaulbert Pavilion to be closed for repairs
Wednesday July 22, 2009
The Gaulbert Pavilion in the Big Rock area of Cherokee Park will have a red tile roof repaired in the next 6-8 weeks. Olmsted Parks Conservancy is investing approximately $90,000 to repair the roof of the historic pavilion.
As part of the implementation of a master plan, Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Metro Parks planted new trees, installed a new playground and benches, and reworked the parking lot to reduce erosion.
The current project, restoration of the pavilion’s roof, will stop damaging leaks. The $90,000 cost estimate will cover repairs and replacement of clay tiles and the damaged wood beneath them. The restroom facilities will be open on a limited basis during the restoration, but the pavilion itself will be closed.
