Riverport site selected for new facility, University of Louisville to purchase existing property
Kentucky Trailer announced today that it will expand its Louisville operations, creating 182 new manufacturing jobs while relocating to a new headquarters at Riverport.
The company, located at 2601 S. Third Street, will sell its property to the University of Louisville Foundation, which will use the land and buildings for future campus expansions.
Mayor Jerry Abramson and Governor Steve Beshear made the announcement today. Kentucky Trailer employs 286 people.
“This was a truly unique win all around for our local economy with Kentucky Trailer able to expand local operations, maintain and grow jobs, as well as find the perfect buyer for its current property,” Abramson said.
“This is a significant day in our company’s history,” said Gary Smith, Kentucky Trailer president and CEO. “The Tway family founded Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing on this land nearly 75 years ago, and we are proud that the property will be supporting the University of Louisville’s future growth. We truly appreciate the cooperation and support we have received from U of L leadership, the Commonwealth, Louisville Metro Government and from GLI to make this important expansion possible for Kentucky Trailer.”
Kentucky Trailer was approved for $13.5 million from the Kentucky Industrial Revitalization Act to retain existing jobs and create the new jobs. The incentives were announced during the June 26 meeting of the Kentucky Economic Development Financing Authority.
“We are thrilled that Kentucky Trailer will be keeping these quality jobs in Kentucky,” Gov Beshear said. “With the company’s rich tradition and history in Louisville, we wanted to be sure Kentucky Trailer had the resources it needed for continued success here in Louisville.”
