Surrounded by family, friends and supporters, David James was officially sworn in Wednesday night as the newest member of the Louisville Metro Council serving District 6.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of the District and I look forward to joining the other 25 members of the Council as we help a new administration move this Metro Government forward,” said James.
Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Susan Gibson administered the oath to James at the Conrad Compton House at 1402 St. James Court.
James won a special election called for November 2nd to fill the unexpired term of the late George Unseld who died unexpectedly in office earlier in the year. The new councilman will fill the remaining two years in Unseld’s term.
“I want to let the people of District 6 know I am ready to get to work and I encourage them to contact my office and let me know what is on their minds and how we can help,” says James. “I will be spending the next few weeks and months following up on the concerns and issues I heard about on the campaign.”
James is currently a Lieutenant with the University of Louisville Police Department supervising a staff of officers and personnel. In 1984, James joined the Louisville Police Department to begin his career in law enforcement. While an officer, James was a member of patrol divisions and later promoted to Detective. He has worked as an undercover detective in Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence. He also served as a member of the LPD S.W.A.T. Team.
From 2004 to 2007, he was Commissioner of the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation, the investigative arm of the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.
Donna Sanders will be Councilman James Legislative Assistant. His office number is 574-1106.
