It is a coming home celebration for one of Metro Louisville’s most established neighborhoods. Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) announces this year’s “Newburg Festival” will get underway this coming Friday, September 3rd though Sunday, September 5th.

“This weekend is a chance for old and new friends to come out and see the old neighborhood and the new changes which have taken place; along with an opportunity to have some fun,” says Shanklin. “Many great things are happening in Newburg from our new library, newly dedicated splash park and other improvements to Petersburg Park.”

The 2010 Newburg Festival will kick off with live music and booths on Friday, September 3rd The highlight of the fun-filled weekend begins with Saturday’s Community Breakfast @ the Newburg Middle immediately followed by a neighborhood Parade featuring the Central High School Marching Band and the River City Drum Corps and various community groups. Live entertainment will start on Saturday afternoon and continue throughout the evening. On Sunday, September 5th the traditional gospel concert begins @ 5:00 P.M. and the event ends with a fireworks show for the whole family, @dusk.

“Every year we have groups of volunteers in the Newburg Community who work very hard to make this Festival something special for not only the residents who live here but for the people who come back to Newburg to relive good times and great memoires,” says Shanklin. “We will have a fun time at our Community Breakfast and I want to make sure everyone in the community is invited.”

The 2010 Newburg Festival will be held in and around Petersburg Park located at the corner of East Indian Trail and Petersburg Roads.
