Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) will give the keynote address on Friday, May 8th when the Metro Department of Health and Wellness honors its nursing staff as part of National Nurses Week.
“It is an honor to celebrate such an important profession when it comes to the public’s health,” says Welch, who herself is a practicing nurse of 33 years.
The Department of Health and Wellness has 57 fulltime and limited part time nurses in clinical, outreach and management programs..
National Nurses Week is usually celebrated in May near May 12th. The date is also the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
“That also happens to be my birthday as well,” says Welch. “Many people do not understand the hard work and dedication it takes to be a nurse in the 21st Century. I plan to encourage those in attendance to keep up the good work and express my thanks and those of the Metro Council for the job they do.”
As a member of the Metro Council since 2006, Welch is vice-chair of the Health and Human Needs Committee. She has sponsored numerous health fairs and mammography clinics in the last few years. She is also a member of the National League of Cities Human Development Steering Committee.
The event will be from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Metro Department of Health and Wellness, 400 East Gray Street.Sponsor:
