For Immediate Release:
Louisville, KY – Decreases in traffic and reduced awareness are hurting many businesses located near the Harrods Creek Bridge on River Road in eastern Jefferson County. Since the closure of the bridge on November 26, 2008 owners have seen decreases in customers. The closure of the bridge along with the economic slowdown have made the past month difficult for business owners.
Hearing the concerns of local restaurant and business owners, Councilman Kelly Downard (District 16) is working with the Metro Department of Public Works and has commissioned the installation of seven new signs along both sides of the bridge. The signs which are to be installed this morning will alert people that the businesses near the bridge remain open and that they can be accessed using an alternative route.
“While we are not able to immediately fix the State Highway Department’s concerns regarding the safety of the bridge, we can make sure that residents know that nearby businesses are still open and could use your patronage” – Councilman Kelly Downard
The signs read, “All restaurants and Businesses Open” and will be located adjacent to the markers letting drivers know of the road closure.
For more information on these signs or the effects of the bridge closing please contact Councilman Kelly Downard at 574-1116.
