Louisville – There will be music, fun and fireworks when Riverview Park puts on its very first Independence Festival hosted by Council members Rick Blackwell (D-12), Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13), Bob Henderson (D-14) and David Yates (D-25) on Saturday, June 30th.

“Riverview Park is the perfect place to celebrate the founding of our country and enjoy a summer holiday weekend on the Ohio River,” says Blackwell. “We want to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy themselves and see just how this park is becoming a jewel of the Southwest.”

The Independence Festival will run from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Three bands, 31w, Ode 2 the Gnu and local favorite, the Monarchs will be on hand to provide an afternoon and evening of music. Then at 9:30 pm, a spectacular fireworks show will get underway on the banks of the Ohio. Dawne Gee will be emcee for the event.

“Many may remember the Freedom Festival that was held for many years out in our area,” says Welch. “Well when the cost was too much for the organizers for that event, we felt it important for the Southwest to have its own Independence Day Celebration!””

Mike Linnig’s, Ehrler’s Ice Cream and Ron’s Hot Dogs will be food vendors for the event. Bring the lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy a wonderful June afternoon and the kids should bring a swimsuit to enjoy Riverview’s Splash Park.

“This is a chance for everyone to have some fun and enjoy themselves in a great setting along the Ohio River,” says Yates. "Take the opportunity to experience one of Southwest Louisville's many treasures"

“For many people, summer is not complete without a good Fourth of July celebration and fireworks,” says Henderson. “We have that celebration right here in Riverview Park.”

The Riverport Business Association is also a sponsor of the festival.
