Louisville – Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) is encouraging residents to be aware of the extreme heat and is working with the Newburg Community Center to make sure there is a place in the area to help those in need stay cool.
“The Newburg Community Center is a central location in our area offering a place to keep cool, especially for senior citizens,” says Shanklin.
“My office will be bringing extra ice to the Center to help senior citizens who are meeting there.”
The Newburg Community Center does not have an ice maker for seniors and others who use the facility. The Councilwoman plans to purchase an ice maker for the Center to help with meetings there.
The Councilwoman requested and Metro Parks has okayed operation of the Newburg Park splash park for an extra hour during the day to allow the public to enjoy the water a bit longer during the hot weather.
“I hope everyone who needs relief from the heat will take advantage of the center and the Park,” says Shanklin. “I encourage everyone to check on elderly people you know during the next few days.
The Newburg Community Center is located 4810 Exeter Avenue.
