Louisville – In years gone by, it was not uncommon to find your neighbors at an ice cream social on Sunday during the summer.
“It was a chance to cool off from the heat with something sweet and ask how things were going with friends and family,” says Councilman Tom Owen (D).
The idea is still alive.
On Sunday July 16th, the Belknap Neighborhood Association has modified the ice cream social concept as a way to introduce everyone to Warheim Park, one of the city’s newest landmark.
“Warheim Park is unique because it was carved out of a wilderness in an urban area,” says Owen, who hopes everyone will come out and see the park’s uniqueness..
The Belknap Neighborhood Association is holding the Summer Sunday Sweetener from 6:30 to 8:30pm at 1832 Overlook Terrace.
For the price of a $1 to $2 ticket, samples of desserts from local bakers and restaurants, including Kizito’s Cookies and Alameda, will be offered for Summer sampling.
Musical guests will be on hand as well as activities for kids.
While the Summer Sunday Sweetener may appeal to the sweet tooth, it has a much more important purpose.
Dessert proceeds as well as any donations will be used to maintain and operate Warheim Park which was formally dedicated as a park October 2, 2004.
