Adoption Blitz a Success at Metro Animal Services

Tuesday July 5, 2011

No dogs will be euthanized

Thanks to an overwhelming response from rescue groups, foster volunteers and animal-lovers communitywide, no dogs will have to be euthanized at Metro Animal Services due to overcrowding.

As of 4 p.m., 75 of the shelter’s 150 dogs have been adopted. Staff at the Animal Care Center is continuing to help people through the adoption process. The Manslick facility will remain open until the last customer is served.

“We are thrilled with the response from the community and even more thrilled that these deserving pets have found new homes,” Susan Neumayer, interim Director at Metro Animal Services said. “I’d like to offer a big thank you to everyone who turned out to make this happen today.”

MAS offered a one-day, $9 dog adoption rate at its Shively location with the goal of adopting out animals as many animals as possible.

Animals are available for adoption year-round at the Animal House location at 3516 Newburg Road.
