For 76 years, the community of Fairdale has gathered in the month of September to celebrate its founding and give the people who live there a chance to have fun and meet their neighbors.

It’s a tradition that will continue on Friday, September 7th when the 77th Fairdale Community Fair begins for the weekend.

“It is a fun time for everyone,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch, (D) 13, who represents the area. “Its like a county fair and the people who put it together like to have fun and think of this as a way to celebrate all that is good in this community.”

Welch is the Grand Marshall for the 2007 Fairdale Community Parade which is set for Saturday, September 8th at 12:00pm. This year’s parade theme is “That’s Entertainment.”

The parade begins at Fairdale High School and ends at Fairdale Elementary School. It usually draws approximately 8,000 visitors and is the kick off for fair activities. The parade consists of floats, bands, youth organizations, cars, walkers and horses.
Two new events have been added to the Fair this year.

The First Annual Fair Days Car show will be held on Saturday from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Welch will be a judge for the event along with Congressman John Yarmuth and State Representative Ron Weston. The Judges will pick the top three cars.

Also new to the Fair, the Fairdale Ministries Bike Run will get underway before the parade. The 90 minute run will start at 10:00am and money raised through the entry fees will help the Fairdale Ministries.

“Many people have come to expect the traditions of the Fairdale Community Fair but it is also nice to see new things added,” says Welch. “These are fun things for the whole family to enjoy.”
