Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) is issuing a special invitation for those who live in the 40212 zip code to become part of planning for a new federal initiative to transform the area into a Promise Neighborhood.
“This is an opportunity to have a dramatic impact on the lives of children in our community,” says Hamilton. “It is also an opportunity to help improve the health of the family and our community at the same time.”
Wednesday, May 6th will be the launch date for an important community meeting regarding Promise Neighborhood 40212 initiative. The meeting will be held at Western Middle School, 2201West Main Street for residents who would like to become involved, or want to know more about the program beginning at 6:30pm.
“The Promise Neighborhood is based upon the success and achievements of the Harlem Children’s Zone,” says Hamilton. “It is an initiative involving not only area residents but Jefferson County Public Schools, the University of Louisville, Metro United Way and other health and human service agencies.”
“During his 2008 campaign, the President stated his intention to establish 20 Promise Neighborhoods around the country,” says Hamilton. “The details have not yet been announced yet by the US Department of Education but we want to be prepared to submit a grant application that will enhance families and children in 40212 and make sure Louisville is selected as one of those Promise Neighborhoods.”
“I encourage everyone to attend if you have hopes and dreams for improving the lives of your children and our community,” says Hamilton.
The meeting is open to everyone who wants to join the effort. For more information contact Howard Mason at 502-551-2612 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
