LMPD Officer Killed in the Line of Duty
(March 23, 2005) -- 27-year-old Louisville Metro Police Officer Peter Alan Grignon paid the ultimate sacrifice this morning when he lost his life while responding to a call for service in the 2600 block of Accasia. Officer Grignon was investigating a hit and run accident when a suspect shot him twice.
Officer Grignon was a graduate of Eastern High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University in May of 2000. His family said, "Peter always wanted to be a police officer. It was his lifelong dream to join the force."
Officer Grignon's aspirations came to fruition and he began his career with the former Jefferson County Police Department's last recruit class in October 2002. He was sworn in as a police officer in March 2003 and began his tour of duty in the old Charlie District. He was subsequently transferred to the old Sixth District and most recently worked as a patrol officer for the Second Division.
Officer Girgnon just recently celebrated his one year wedding anniversary with his wife, the former Rebecca Studebaker, on March 20th of this year. He also leaves behind his parents, Don and Barbara Grignon, a brother Paul and his wife Shannon, as well as a host of family friends and colleagues.
Officer Grignon will be remembered as a dedicated and faithful public servant, committed to the community he served and the Louisville Metro Police Department. He is the first Louisville Metro Police officer to lose his life in the line of duty and the 84th sworn officer killed in the metro area since 1888.
Memorial funds have been set up for the family at several sites including the Jefferson County Police Officers' Credit Union at 517 Court Place, the Louisville Police Officers' Credit Union at 900 West Market Street and the Jefferson County Federal Credit Union at 9600 Ormsby Station Road and 810 Barret Avenue. We ask that the community's thoughts and prayers remain with the family at this time.
