Metro Parks, Public Health and Wellness to Offer Free Fitness Classes

Monday January 4, 2010

Just in time for the new year, Metro Parks and the Department of Public Health and Wellness are collaborating to offer free fitness classes at various Metro Parks community centers.

The classes begin January 4 and will be taught by certified fitness instructors. The fitness programming continues the goals set forth by the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement, which represents Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson’s commitment to developing a long-term, multi-phase program that encourages and supports healthy lifestyles by promoting increased physical activity, better nutrition, healthy public policy and access to needed resources.

“We know that Louisville residents often set fitness goals at the beginning of each year, and because of cost and inconvenience, may not be able to sustain them throughout the year,” Abramson said. “These classes are a way for folks to get active and perhaps drop a few extra pounds they may have gained over the holidays.”

While the classes begin on Jan. 4, residents are free to attend at any time and as often as they like. The classes will continue through the end of May at Metro Parks community centers.
