Louisville – The first week of school is a time for most kids to get use to the routine of a new class or teacher and maybe some new friends.

So to help kids end the first week with some fun, District 9 is holding a swim party.

“It always helps to have a way for kids to get to know one another, so that why a block party can be special,” says Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D) 9. “The best way for the family to enjoy a block party is a back to school one.”

On Friday August 18, 2006, District 9 will hold its 7th Annual Back-to-School Block Party from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.

Free swimming, pizza and drinks will be available.

“We send out invitations to schools in the district but this event is open to all children in our area,” says Ward-Pugh.

The Block Party will also be a chance for those who have to enjoy the Meagher Center at no charge to any child or family.

“We have a rich tradition of block parties in our district,” says Ward-Pugh. “We have one in the neighborhood that has been on going for about 22 years. This back to school party will be a chance to find out how the first week of school went.”
