Contact: Tony Hyatt 574-4137/526-3622
Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge is giving residents of District 3 the chance to learn more about proposed new railroad safety projects being considered for the area.
“There is always a major concern about public safety when it comes to railroad crossings in Metro Louisville,” says Woolridge. “There are some proposals being considered to update several crossings from 22nd Street to Virginia Avenue.”
The Community Gathering will be held at the Kirby Center of Excellence, 2308 Algonquin Parkway, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The Center is next door to Southern Star Baptist Church. A light meal will be provided from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
Representatives of Metro Public Works will be present to discuss the new projects which will also be on exhibit for public review. New federal regulations regarding railroad crossing safety and “quiet zones” have prompted many cities across the country to review the status of railroad crossings.
“We have some intersections and streets in District 3 which have no crossing gates and there are many options being considered to correct this concern,” says Woolridge. “I would encourage everyone from District 3 to come out and learn more about what is planned.”
The public should feel free to drop by the meeting anytime between 6:00pm to 8:00pm to ask questions or review any of the projects.
