Louisville – At the overwhelming requests of residents in the community, Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) is announcing that the people of Newburg and Norfolk will have a community festival on Saturday, September 29th called “Newburg Community Fun Day.”

“I want the community to know that we will have a special day for them. It will be scaled back but we will still try to have fun and enjoy the unity of our community,” says Shanklin.

Shanklin and Ruben Pulliam, President the Petersburg Newburg Improvement Association made the announcement on Tuesday. The Association is still in the planning stages of the event which will be held only on Saturday and Sunday this year not the traditional three days of the Newburg Festival in years past.

“The decision to move forward has been made and we feel the community should not be denied a traditional event that has brought many together over the last 50 years,” says Shanklin.

The Councilwoman says details and a schedule of the event will be released when plans are finalized.
