GLI, Louisville Metro Launch Web Directory Entrepreneurial 1-Stop to assist businesses Officials from Louisville Metro Government and Greater Louisville Inc.
Friday July 9, 2004
The Metro Chamber of Commerce announced today the launch of new Web directory for small businesses and entrepreneurs. The Entrepreneurial 1-Stop is just that, a one-stop online destination for new and existing business owners who need help at various stages of business development, from start-up to hiring. Entrepreneurs and small business owners also can visit 123 E. Main for one-on-one assistance.
GLI’s Enterprise Corp. and Louisville Metro Government teamed up to create the new Web-based directory as a way to provide centralized access to the wealth of resources available in the community. The Web site, located at GreaterLouisville.com/1stop, includes links to 42 government and business organizations in Louisville, southern Indiana and the surrounding region.
“What we’ve done is create a supermarket for entrepreneurs and small business leaders,” said Mark Crane, the executive director of The Enterprise Corp. “Whether they are looking for help in starting a business, growing it, funding it or staffing it, the 1-Stop will quickly put them in touch with the right resources.”
Entrepreneurial development and small business growth are two important sectors of Louisville’s economy. There are more than 27,000 small businesses in the Louisville area with 100 or fewer employees, which represents about 96% of all businesses. Louisville has even received national recognition for its entrepreneur-friendly environment. In 2003, Entrepreneur magazine ranked Louisville number one in the country in terms of small business growth.
“The majority of new jobs come from small, locally owned businesses and entrepreneurs,” said Mayor Jerry Abramson. “So everything we do to foster entrepreneurial success in turn creates jobs that we know will stay here, and that will strengthen Louisville’s future economic success.”
GLI and metro government plan to publish a hard copy of the directory later in fall. For more information on the Entrepreneurial 1-Stop, call (502) 625-0145.
