Louisville Ranked 3rd Busiest Cargo

Monday August 6, 2007

Airports Council International (ACI) recently announced its final 2006 traffic reports—ranking Louisville International Airport the 3rd busiest cargo airport in North America and the 9th busiest in the world.

Louisville International’s position reflects its status as the global air hub for United Parcel Service (UPS), the 8th largest airline in the world.

In 2006, Louisville International handled a record 1,983,032 metric tons of cargo, an increase from 2005 of 9.3 per cent and UPS set a new record for package volume, delivering almost 4 billion packages or an average of 15.6 million per day.

In addition, Louisville’s airports comprise the largest employment center in Metro Louisville, generating yearly economic impacts of more than 43,000 total jobs and $1.8 billion in total payroll.

Airports Council International is a non-profit association of the world’s airports. The organization advocates policies and provides services that strengthen the ability of air carrier airports to serve their passengers, customers and communities.
