Louisville – In an effort to hear from young people in Metro Louisville, Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D) 5 is encouraging membership in the District 5 Youth Advisory Council.
“This is an opportunity to engage more of the young people in leadership training opportunities, civic and political education and involvement, as well as to give them an opportunity to be heard,” says Hamilton.
The first meeting of the “Youth Advisory Council” will be on Saturday, June 17th, 2006 from 10:00am to 12:00noon at the Metro City Hall, 601 West Jefferson Street. The meeting will be held in the first floor conference room.
“Not only is it a chance to be heard, this Council will dialogue and help plan meaningful programs and activities that address needs and concerns of our young people,” says Hamilton.
The “Youth Advisory Council” is not limited to residents of District 5 but is also geared toward young people from the age of 10 to 22 years old.
Involvement in the Council is not limited to young people.
“We would also like to encourage any parent or adult to get involved,” says Hamilton. “We could use volunteers, mentors and speakers to participate in working with or young people.”
The Youth Advisory Council will be involved in several committees ranging from education, political awareness, employment and community service.
This Saturday the young people will be discussing plans for a “Victory over Violence “ youth forum at the Shawnee Library later this summer
