The Sixth Annual National Family Day at Park Duvalle is a time for families to enjoy a day of food and fun. It is also an important day to encourage parents to get involved with their children to prevent substance abuse.
Council members Judith Green (D-1) and Mary C. Woolridge (D-3) join the Community Builders and Wendy’s in sponsoring the event and encouraging families to come out and enjoy the day.
“All across the country, communities will take the day to focus on families,” says Green. “This day has a very special purpose to help children and families get proactive in dealing with substance abuse.”
National Family Day will take place between 5:00pm and 8:00pm.at Wendy’s Old Fashion Hamburger Restaurant is located at 3301 Cane Run Road and Algonquin Parkway. The first 700 kids who come to the event will eat free.
“Families are the key in making sure our children grow up to have a bright future,” says Woolridge. “As a community, we need to do all that we can to help parents achieve that goal.”
National Family Day was created by the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. Its purpose is to encourage simple ways to reduce substance abuse among children and teenagers and increase healthy families across the country.
There will be entertainment with balloons, clowns, face painting, carnival games and inflatable bounce houses.
The Colgate Bright Smiles Future Dental Van will provide free dental screenings, information and treatment referrals for children up to 12 years of age.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult.
Joining Green and Woolrdige in sponsoring the event are Wendy’s Coca cola and the Community Builders. Additional sponsors include Mainline Broadcast B-96FM, the West Louisville Business Association, Exclusively 4You, and Ryder Truck Rental.
Other participants include the Louisville Department of Health and Wellness, the Louisville Free Public Library, Alpaca Crossings, Home Depot’s Kids Workshop, the Louisville Bats, NAACP, the University of Louisville, Louisville Metro Police, Louisville Fire & Rescue and the Louisville chapter of A.K.A.
