After Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson presents his FY2008 Budget on May 31st, a review of the document will get underway. Metro Council Budget Chairwoman Madonna Flood (D) 24 has set the budget hearing schedule for the month of June.
“This is one of the most important functions of the Metro Council,” says Flood. “I look forward to hearing from the various departments and I encourage the public to follow along as well.”
The budget hearings will begin on June 6th with an overview of the operating and capital budgets for the coming year. The first of the departments will make presentations including the Louisville Free Public Library and Metro Parks will occur on June 7th..
On June 13th, all Metro Agencies involved with public safety and protection will make presentations. Louisville Metro Police will be first in the morning followed by Animal Services, Fire, EMS, Metro Corrections and Metro Safe.
Metro TV Channel 25 on Insight Cable will carry the full schedule of hearings live through out the month of June.
“I know for many members of the public it may not be very exciting to watch a discussion about numbers and number crunching,” says Flood. “But, I would encourage the public to watch. It is important that they see how tax payer dollars are spent and understand what the city’s priorities for the future are for all of us.”
On June 19th, there will be a public hearing beginning at 6:00pm for those interested to make comment about the budget and the budget process.
