Councilman Deonte Hollowell (I-6) has scheduled a clean up on Friday, September 17th at 10:00 am and requested Dismas Charities do cleaning and removal of junk and trash along a problem area of the district.
The properties to be cleaned are in the rear alley adjacent to houses along 1359 to 1365 South 4th Street. These properties were cited for junk, debris and trash by IPL in August 2010 and prior to that cited in 2008.
“The city has a major event coming up in October with the St. James Art Fair and the area we will focus on needs some major attention,” says Hollowell. “We do not want visitors to Metro Louisville leaving with a bad impression.”
Over the years, this area continues to be a problem for residents and an eyesore. The property owners have not responded to complaints. The alley is another example of absentee landlords not being responsible owners for the upkeep of their properties.
“We are acting because residents want something done and Dismas Charities time and again has answered the call to help us clean up the district in these kinds of situations,” says Hollowell. “The last time was in the aftermath of the flash flooding of August in 2009.”
Dismas workers will also be removing junk and debris from Rear Alley of 1144 South 3rd Street.
