Councilwoman Green featured speaker at 2009 Youth Explosion

It is a program designed to show young people how making better life choices will help them in the future. The 2009 Youth Explosion will get underway at Shawnee Park on Saturday, August 15th.
“This is a critical time in our country for young people to become involved and make the right choices in their lives,” says Councilwoman Judith Green (D-1). “The organizers of this event have come up with an exciting way to engage young people about their options for the future.”
The New Covenant Baptist Church is hosting the 2009 Youth Explosion. This year’s theme is “Surviving the Storm.” The event is a full day of activities which focuses on praise, empowerment and deliverance for urban youth. It will take place in Shawnee Park beginning at 10:00am.
The day will begin with a Bike-a-thon, to promote good health and fitness. At 10:30 appropriate workshops and activities geared toward youth and young adults’ ages 3 to 19 on a wide range of topics.
Joining Dr. Green as a featured speaker will be Rev. Chris Campbell of St. Stephen’s Baptist Church
. The day will end with a free outdoor concert, beginning at 2:00 PM. The concert will feature performances by workshop participants, local hip-hop gospel artists and youth choirs, including Gospel Ridaz, A.R.C.H Angels, and the New Life Praise Team.
“Young people have always been a priority for me,” says Green. “I look forward to sharing my experiences with them and hearing what they have to say about what they expect out of life and their future.”
