Louisville - Members of the Democratic Caucus of the Louisville Metro Council have released the following statements after the Kentucky State Fair board’s approval of a lease agreement for Kentucky Kingdom:

“I look forward to the reopening of Kentucky Kingdom. Once again our young people and families will have a place to safely enjoy the summer and there will be economic opportunities for our community. Congratulations to all involved for their determination to make this reopening a priority.”
David James, District 6 Chair of the Democratic Caucus

"KY Kingdom is very important to our economy for tourism as well as job opportunities. I know of many youth from South Louisville who had jobs there in the past to support their college expenses. I am thrilled to make the reopening of KY Kingdom a reality!"
Vicki Aubrey Welch, District 13 Vice Chair Democratic Caucus

“I am pleased that this park is finally being reopened and I’m glad that Ed Hart is the one reopening it because of his experience in opening the original Kentucky Kingdom and building it to be a successful business and tourist attraction.”
Dan Johnson. District 21

“I am pleased that Louisville will once again have this revenue and job producing enterprise back in operation. This is just one more example of why we created the new Intergovernmental Affairs Committee which I chair, so that we can work in an organized way with the administration, state and federal officials to attain what is best for our city”
David Yates, District 25

“This is a win- win venture for Metro Louisville and the Commonwealth of Kentucky because it will provide much needed summer job opportunities as well as full time jobs. It just shows that during tough economic times that the private sector and government can come to together for the benefit for everyone.”
Madonna Flood, District 24

“It is good to see Kentucky Kingdom coming back on line as part of Louisville’s thriving Tourism industry. Kentucky Kingdom is not only a good entertainment venue but is also a key component in economic development for our area. The possibility of creating at least 700 jobs means better opportunities for young people to get the training and experience they need in the business world while at the same time helping our local economy grow through the infusion of new wages.”
David Tandy, District 4

“This is welcomed news. Every summer Kentucky Kingdom was an important employer for young people in our area. Every year, we strive to find jobs providing valuable work experience for teens and young adults. This announcement means area youth will now also have more opportunity to do something constructive and fun with friends during the summer.”
