Councilwoman Madonna Flood (D-24) is asking volunteer groups to come out and help our community on Saturday, May 21st at “Clean-Up Okolona”.

“I am looking forward to once again seeing so many volunteers come out to help us make the community a cleaner place to live,” says Flood.

“Clean-Up Okolona” begins at 9:00am and will last until 11:00am. Signups start at 8:30am volunteers should meet in the north parking lot of Southern High School. Groups then fan out to start picking up trash and debris along Okolona’s streets.

All Okolona nonprofit 501-C3 organizations will have a chance at winning cash prizes depending on the number of volunteers who come out for the clean-up. The top prize for the group with the most volunteers is $950 for first place; $750 for second and $500 for third. Any Okolona 501-C3 group who bring over 25 volunteers will be awarded $200.

Groups wishing to qualify for prizes must pre-register at 574-1124 or be at Southern High School by 8:30 a.m. on May 21st to register. All members of the group must sign-in on clean-up day to be counted toward the total. Only children over six will be counted.

“Every year, I am amazed at the number of dedicated volunteers who come out and spend Saturday morning with us,” says Flood. “I hope they understand how much I appreciate it.”

After cleaning, Flood will host a cook out at Southern High School for all volunteers to celebrate the effort.

Special thanks to Louisville Metro, Brightside, Value Market, Meijer, Solid Waste Management and the Okolona Fire Department.
