Metro Council begins review of Mayor’s Budget Proposal on Wednesday

Louisville – Councilwoman Marianne Butler (D-15), chair of the Metro Council Budget Committee has announced the schedule of hearings for review of the Mayor’s Proposed 2012 -2013 Capital and Operating Budgets.
“This review process of the next fiscal year proposed budget for Metro Government is one of the most important tasks for the Metro Council” says Butler. “This is an opportunity to see how well budget priorities, projects and general operation budgets all merge together to give residents the most efficient government possible.”
The Committee will begin budget hearings on Wednesday, May 30th.
On Monday June 4th, committee members will receive an overview of forecasted revenues for the coming fiscal year. There will also be an explanation of proposed expenditures.
“Early reports and today’s presentation of the budget by the Mayor leave members of the Metro Council and public with many questions” says Councilman Kelly Downard (R-16), who is vice chair of the Budget Committee. “I look forward to reviewing all aspects of the Mayor’s Budget and working with my council colleagues to review the budget in its entirety.”
Public Safety agencies, including Metro Police, Louisville Fire & Rescue, EMS and Corrections will come before the Committee on June 11th, 13th and 14th.
The public will have a chance to comment on the budget during a public hearing set for Wednesday, June 6th beginning at 6:00pm in council Chambers. All hearings of the Committee will be broadcast live on Metro TV. The hearings will also be available online by accessing the Metro Council’s home page at: www.louisvilleky.gov/metrocouncil.
