It is an effort to track potential health problems in the industrialized areas of Metro Louisville. Three Metro Council members are encouraging residents of those areas to take advantage of free health screenings.

“These screenings will give us a sense of any major health concerns connected to the Rubbertown area and the effort is long over due” says Councilwoman Judith Green (D) 1. “I encourage everyone who lives in this area to participate in this process.”

Green, along with Council members Mary C. Woolridge and Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D) represent the area that has been set for the health screenings.

“Those of us who have monitored this concern for more than 20 years are glad to see these screenings become a reality,” says Woolridge, who is chair of the Metro Council’s Health and Human Services Committee. “It is time to learn how detrimental the environment has been to the health of community.”

The free screenings are set to begin on Monday, September 10th through September 22nd. At Farnsley Middle School at Cane Run Road and Lees Lane. The screenings will be held over an eight week period at various locations throughout the city.

“The Metro Public Health and Wellness Department is making every effort to make this accessible for those who may have concerns about their health in the areas affected,” says Hamilton. “Its time to get the information we need to see what can be done to make sure all of our communities are safe and healthy to live in.”

The free screenings were made possible with $1.2 million from a recent settlement between the Commonwealth of Kentucky and MSD concerning waste water treatment in the industrial area.
