Councilman Tandy to welcome Dr. Joseph Lowery at Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Saturday

Louisville – Metro Councilman David Tandy (D) 4 will have a special honor on Saturday, January 13th when the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration convenes in Louisville.

Tandy will present a key to Metro Louisville on behalf of Mayor Jerry Abramson to Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, co-founder and President Emeritus of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

“The key is just a small token but we what Dr. Lowery to know he can call Louisville home and be welcomed here any time,” says Tandy.

Dr. Lowery will be in Louisville to lead a day of worship and workshops at the Middletown United Methodist Church as part of the Conference.

He was named on of the “15 Greatest Black Preachers” by Ebony Magazine and was described as the consummate voice of biblical social relevancy, a focused voice speaking truth and power.

He was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the NAACP in 1997.

The Conference will be underway from 9:30 am to 3:00pm. The Middletown United Methodist Church is located at 11902 Shelbyville Road.
