It is the largest inner city forest in the United States. Now, residents of Louisville are being asked the best way to use the Jefferson Memorial Forest and look to its future.
“Anyone who has used or visited the Forest should have an interest in what needs to be done to keep and preserve this natural treasure,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13. “I want everyone to come out and let Metro Parks know what you think would enhance this great recreational area.”
Welch will be on hand for the initial public meeting for the Jefferson Memorial Forest Master Plan meeting set for Wednesday, May 21st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The meeting will be held at Fairdale High School, 1001 Fairdale Road.
“The public will get the chances to see all of the review work and research up to this point on the Forest,” says Welch. “Public comment will give Metro Parks direction in what should be included in any master plan.”
Parks officials hope to have the plan ready for the 6,191-acre Jefferson Memorial Forest by fall 2008. Those who can not attend the meeting but would like to review the plan and comment can click the following link; then review and comment:
