For Immediate release:
Metro Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D) 13 will join other elected officials and residents in an effort to clean up several creeks and vacant lots on Saturday, March 31st.
“We are fortunate that we have many dedicated residents willing to organize and return beauty back to some areas that have fallen victim to illegal dumping over the last few years, “ says Welch. “Some of us plan to help them get the job done.”
Joining Councilwoman Welch and the constituents will be US Congressman John Yarmuth, State Representatives Ron Weston and Tim Firkins and State Senator Perry Clark will be among the volunteers joining Welch and residents. Jefferson County Circuit Court Clerk David Nicholson, PVA Tony Lindauer and School Board Member Linda Duncan have also volunteered for the clean up.
“Residents have targeted creeks that run along Blevins Gap, Lonesome Hollow, Joyner Hill and Tidwell Roads,” says Welch. “That is where our main focus will be. We also have a vacant lot at Greyling Drive and Lamborne Blvd that needs some attention.”
Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Penile Baptist Church at 9:00 am. The cleanup will get underway from 9:00am until 2:00pm. The Church is located at 2303 Blevins Gap Road.
Brightside will provide bags and gloves for all volunteers. City crew will pick up bagged waste at the end of the day.
“I am hopeful we have good weather,” says Welch. “I am also hoping that we get a good number of volunteers. We have a beautiful area out here and its shame that not to keep it as beautiful as it can be.”
