Metro Council Health and Human Services committee to resume discussion on smoking ordinance Wednesday

Louisville – The Metro Council Health and Human Services committee will meet on Wednesday, September 20th to resume its review of revising the current smoking ban.
“The committee wants to hear from groups that will be impacted by any changes made to the current ordinance,” says Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge (D) 3, chairwoman of the Health and Human Services committee.
A revision to the current smoking ordinance is sponsored by Councilman Ken Fleming (R) 7.
The meeting will begin at 3:00pm in Council Chambers City Hall.
There will be several speakers tentatively set to speak before the committee. They include; Stacy Roof, CEO Kentucky Restaurant Association, John Dant and Kama Reed of the Metro Louisville Hospitality Coalition, Dr. David Bizot, past President of the Jefferson County Medical Association and Kevin Flanery Vice President National Affairs Churchill Downs.
“Once we have heard updates about the current law and what is being proposed, the committee will know which direction to proceed,” said Woolridge.
The current Metro smoking ban was passed on August 11th, 2005. It went into effect on November 15th of that same year.
