In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness month, Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D) 9 is sponsoring a breast cancer screening clinic for women of the district.
“We know that early detection of breast cancer is one of fighting this disease,” says Ward-Pugh. “It is my hope that women over the age of 40 will take advantage of not only my screening but any breast cancer screening in Metro Louisville during the month of October.”
The Breast Cancer Screening for District 9 will take place on Friday, October 26th from 8:30am to 3:30pm at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street at the corner of Clifton and Payne Streets.
“I know first hand how detection can go a long way in fighting this disease,” says Ward-Pugh. “My Mother, Sue Ward-Pugh, will celebrate her Ninth anniversary as a breast cancer survivor on December 30th of this year. I myself have had mammograms since I was 36 years old.”
The screenings will be given to women age 40 and over. There is no cost to program eligible women with out insurance. Insurance will be filed for women with coverage. The U of L Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center will administer the mammograms.
Joining Ward-Pugh in the screening clinic is the Partnership in Cancer Control, the Kentucky Cancer Program and the Metro Louisville public Health and Wellness Department.
